MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship rookie Oliver Konig (Orelac Racing VerdNatura) has undergone surgery on a broken left collarbone following a training session crash in the break between the Emilia-Romagna and UK Rounds of WorldSBK. Konig, making his full-time debut in the category in 2022, will now look to recover ahead of WorldSBK’s visit to Donington Park in July.

Czech rider Konig made his WorldSBK debut at the end of the 2021 season and graduated full-time in 2022, making the step up directly from WorldSSP300. He has endured a tough start to the season with no points to his name so far and claiming a best result of 17^th place in the Tissot Superpole Race at the Estoril Round.

Taking advantage of the break in the calendar, Konig took part in a training session but crashed out of it and broke his left collarbone. After the diagnosis, the 20-year-old had surgery on the injury and he will now spend time recovering ahead of the UK Round across the 15^th-17^th July at the iconic Donington Park.

In a post on Instagram, Konig said: “We managed to keep it under cover for a week, but I broke my left collarbone during a training session last Thursday. Furthermore, I would not blur it more and I would just like to thank everybody for the help, especially to the Feigl family and Dr. Biegl for the quick and perfect surgery. Now all that’s left is to quickly recover and get back to the shape for the next WorldSBK race in England. Thank you all for your support and I look forward to seeing you in Most.”
